The birds in ‘Birds On A Limb’ will each be perched on a branch waiting to sing.
The class will emphasize the stitching of the birds, using ribbon on the leaves
and adding dimensionality to the branches. Other areas are left un-raised, and,
that too, comes in to play. The height of certain items, versus the flatter
sections of the design, will show the stitcher how that technique causes that
area to be “closer” than the others. There is much compensation to be
understood; however, a good understanding of compensation is required. This bird
design will appeal to a wide variety of stitchers and will allow them the
opportunity to experience different processes, stitches and use of composite
colors. The birds’ colors will be: red, blue, yellow and green. There will be
four separate canvases, one for each bird color.
There are many types of threads used in this piece in order facilitate the
correct bird effects; DMC floss, Planet Earth 6 Ply Silk, Crystal Braid,
Threadworx Merino Wool, Planet Earth Silk, Kreinik, Splendor Silk Ribbon and
Threadworx Vineyard silk are all utilized in this design. ‘Birds on a Limb’ -
stitched on four separate 18-count canvases, each measuring 10" x 10". The
finished size of each bird is approximately 5" x 7”.
